Album

Open Season is the second album from the Brighton-based English band, British Sea Power. It showcased a more accessible, mainstream sound and reached No. 13 in the UK Albums Chart. Almost all of the songs on the album were recorded with Mads Bjerke, who had previously worked with the band on their 2003 album, The Decline of British Sea Power and also with Primal Scream, Girls Aloud and Spiritualized, and mixed by Bill Price, with the exceptions of. Open Season is virtually a 45-minute waltz of lilting string arrangements and dreamy vocals while acoustic and electric guitars chase the album's quiet golden tones. A theme of the great outdoors makes it a relaxed occasion from start to finish the 11 songs featured aren't a schoolbook interpretation on life's hardships as much as they are a r. Open Season. On the surface we have 11 reasonably straightforward guitar driven tracks, however repeated listens to the record allows it to unfold into something much more detailed. For the most part, the album has a distinct feel to it - very spacey and chilled out. With Open Season, British Sea Power will become the latest in a line that includes Pulp, The Smiths, Beck and Björk, who simply waited for the mainstream to alter its course and engulf their tributory without them needing to embrace it. Love this album, but this pressing seems to be off-center on side A. Sounds OK up to the last track where everything sounds woozy. I can see the tonearm swaying like a drunk man on a trampoline. Kind of a shame. Need to hunt down the 2008 repress.
