Pod is the debut album by American alternative rock band the Breeders, released by 4AD records on May 29, 1990. Engineered by Steve Albini, the album features band leader Kim Deal on vocals and guitar, Josephine Wiggs on bass, Britt Walford on drums, and Tanya Donelly on guitar. Albini's production prioritized sound over technical accomplishment the final takes favor the band's spontaneous live in studio performances. The Breeders began in earnest when Pixies and Throwing Muses came off that first European tour, at some point during which Kim and Donelly decided they wanted to make a record together. They recruited a British bassist they'd met on the road, Josephine Wiggs, and their Boston friend Carrie Bradley would play violin. In 1990, they released the great, eerily primal Pod, which Kurt Cobain loved, cited as an inspiration on Nirvana, and later dubbed, an epic that will never let you forget your ex-girlfriend. The Breeders are an American alternative rock band based in Dayton, Ohio, consisting of members Kim Deal rhythm guitar, lead vocals, her twin sister Kelley Deal lead guitar, backing vocals, Josephine Wiggs bass guitar, backing vocals and Jim Macpherson drums. The earliest incarnation of the band was formed by Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly in 1989 as a side-project alongside their full-time bands Pixies and Throwing Muses respectively. What was released was a record so willfully experimental, bold, biting, and just plain great, it would easily stand up against all the other big albums of the time. Now we all know what was happening with Kim in the Pixies, it is easy to see where she was getting her inspiration from. Like other musicians whove left a massively influential band after feeling restricted see George Harrison, Graham Coxon, and David Byr. Includes unique code to get digital album.
