The Doors is the debut album by the American rock band the Doors. Recorded in 1966 at Sunset Sound Recorders, Hollywood, California, it was produced by Paul A. Rothchild and released on January 4, 1967. The album features their breakthrough single Light My Fire and the lengthy song The End with its Oedipal spoken word section. The Doors was central to the progression of psychedelic rock, and has been critically acclaimed. In 2012 it was ranked No. 42 in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums. The movie follows Morrison from his days as a film student in Los Angeles to his death in Paris, France at age 27 in 1971. The movie features a tour-de-force performance by Val Kilmer, who not only looks like Jim Morrison's long-lost twin brother, but also sounds so much like him that he did much of his own singing. It has been written that even the surviving Doors had trouble distinguishing Kilmer's vocals from Morrison&apo. THE DOORS The Doors - An Oliver Stone Film 1991 German 11-track vinyl LP featuring the original soundtrack to the fantastic movie starring Val Kilmer as the legendary Jim Morrison. Includes the timeless Doors classics Stone is still up among my favorite directors. He had a purple patch from the mid-eighties to the mid-nineties when he gave us some terrific films that garnered both critical and commercial success that unfortunately he hasn't seen much of lately. This biopic of The Doors, or more accurately that of its mercurial front-man Jim Morrison divided the critics once again, but for me remains one of his finest celluloid treats. Jim Morrison Val Kilmer on perhaps his greatest character motivation in Oliver Stone's The Doors Okay, I can see why surviving members of the band The Doors hated a lot of what was in Stone's biopic and particularly its questionable portrayals of real people. Oliver Stone, who as a young man once tried to pitch an early version of this screenplay to Morrison himself, has a natural feel for the Los Angeles beach and rock scene in the years when the Doors were first establishing themselves as the band from Venice. Morrison materializes on the beach like a young god from the sea, falls in love with a hippie chick Meg Ryan, and reads his poetry, which is sophomoric, but translates easily into haunting song lyrics, helped by the mournful quality of his voice. Whatever else you can say about Morrison and the Doors, there is no denying their sound th. A tremendous debut album, and indeed one of the best first-time outings in rock history, introducing the band's fusion of rock, blues, classical, jazz, and poetry with a knockout punch. The lean, spidery guitar and organ riffs interweave with a hypnotic menace, providing a seductive backdrop for Jim Morrison's captivating vocals and probing prose. With more stagger than swagger this Jim Morrison biopic looks great, but there's not a lot going on underneath
