The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The first stable line-up consisted of bandleader Brian Jones guitar, harmonica, and keyboards, Mick Jagger lead vocals, harmonica, Keith Richards guitar, vocals, Bill Wyman bass, Charlie Watts drums, and Ian Stewart piano. Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued to work with the band as a contracted musician until his death in 1985. The band's primary songwriters, Jagger and Richards, assumed leadership after Andrew Loog Oldham became the group's manager. Jones lef read more. It was a day of surprises, not least how late everything ran. No-one will ever agree upon exactly how many people turned out to witness the Rolling Stones perform at Hertfordshires Knebworth Park on August 21, 1976. Promoter Freddy Bannister claims today that: We expected 100,000 and got 104,000. Bill Wyman of the Stones reckons that 110,000 presales were augmented by 30,000 tickets sold on the day, but that between 150,000 and 200,000 actually attended. Stage announcements on the day estimated 300,000. The Best Of Knebworth Fair CD, Unofficial. Midnight Beat. MB CD 088. The Rolling Stones - The Best Of Knebworth Fair. On August 21, 1976, the Rolling Stones headlined England's Knebworth Fair festival - an all-day outdoor event that also included appearances by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Hot Tuna, 10cc, and the Don Harrison Band. Not surprisingly, the Stones' Knebworth set was bootlegged. In late 1976, the little-known bootlegger RSVP Records released part of their set on the rare LP Knebworth Fair. And in 1996, Midnight Beat assembled this collection of Knebworth performances, which is far from a straight reissue of RSVP's old Knebworth Fair LP
